Govt approves GH¢362 million for tertiary research

 


The government is committed to providing ample funding to colleges of education to create an environment conducive to national and international development through research and innovative, high-quality teaching. This education will be ICT-driven.

To this end, GH¢ 362,429,568.00 has been approved for the payment of book and research allowances to eligible senior members of public tertiary institutions nationwide. This funding commitment aims to create equal opportunities for staff to advance their careers and enable educational institutions to become self-sufficient in terms of human resources.

This announcement was made by Prof. Yayra Dzakadzie, the Director of Tertiary Education at the Ministry of Education, during the 14th graduation ceremony of the Jasikan College of Education. The theme of the event was "Overcoming challenges of the teaching profession: the role of character, innovation, and creativity."

Prof. Dzakadzie emphasized that the government is providing the necessary infrastructure and academic facilities to support the effective training of teachers. Furthermore, the 300-bed capacity hostel projects in the 46 colleges of education are progressing, and the government is committed to completing these projects.

He also assured the College of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) that the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) will soon begin implementing the audit report in all colleges of education without bias.

Prof. Dzakadzie highlighted the Ministry of Education's commitment to promoting STEM education through roadshows that create awareness of the significance of STEM education and inspire students to pursue careers in this field. He announced the launch of the second edition of the STEMNNOVATION competition, aiming to foster creativity, critical thinking, and a passion for STEM education among students. The ministry is determined to expand and enhance the competition further this year to drive innovation, economic growth, and sustainable development.
