The Minority is urging the CEO of COCOBOD to resign due to alleged mismanagement of the cocoa sector.

The Minority in Parliament is calling for the immediate resignation of Joseph Boahen Aidoo, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD). They assert that Aidoo's mismanagement of the cocoa sector has exacerbated the difficulties faced by cocoa farmers, rendering him unsuitable to hold the CEO position.

Speaking to reporters in the Ashanti Region, Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson expressed concerns about the deteriorating state of the cocoa sector, despite a proclaimed 68 percent increase in the producer price. He cited a decline in cocoa production to its lowest point in fifteen years and significant losses incurred since 2017, including a reported GH¢2.4 billion loss in a single year.

The Minority has accused Aidoo of both incompetence and corruption, alleging that he has not implemented the necessary reforms to enhance the cocoa industry. Furthermore, they claim that cocoa farmers are being shortchanged by the government, as the price of a cocoa bag has been increased to GHC1,300 instead of the recommended minimum of GHC2,500 per bag.

Eric Opoku, the Deputy Ranking Member on the Food, Agriculture, and Cocoa Affairs Committee of Parliament, criticized the government for providing cocoa farmers with inadequate compensation, emphasizing that this season offers an opportunity for them to benefit from their produce.
