The committee investigating the leaked IGP audio will proceed with the questioning of COP Mensah today.
The Parliamentary Ad-Hoc Committee assigned to investigate the alleged IGP removal plot will resume its public hearings on September 1st.
Earlier, on August 31st, the committee heard testimonies from COP George Alex Mensah, the Director of Operations at the Ghana Police Service, and Superintendent Emmanuel Gyebi, both of whom were implicated in the alleged scheme to oust Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
The committee's chairman, Samuel Atta Kyea, mentioned that they might need to recall Daniel Bugri Naabu, the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Northern regional chairman, for further questioning. He emphasized the importance of conducting a thorough investigation, especially in light of emerging evidence, such as an alleged original tape.
COP George Alex Mensah accused Daniel Bugri Naabu of providing false information to the ad-hoc parliamentary committee. His return before the committee is anticipated.
Superintendent Emmanuel Gyebi strongly denied any association with Daniel Bugri Naabu, the former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, during his appearance before the committee. Superintendent Gyebi dismissed suggestions that they had collaborated with two other senior police officers on a pre-arranged plan to discuss the potential removal of the IGP with President Nana Akufo-Addo.
Bugri Naabu confirmed the authenticity of the leaked tape during his appearance before the committee on August 28, 2023, and stated that he had hired someone to record the conversation.
