Samuel Atta Akyea, head of the 7-member ad-hoc committee investigating the plot to oust the Inspector General of Police, has disclosed that Dr. George Akuffo Dampare is scheduled to appear before the committee on Tuesday, September 12.

Atta Akyea also mentioned that the three senior police officers, COP Alex Mensah, Superintendent George Asare, and Superintendent Emmanuel Eric Gyebi, who have already testified before the committee, are expected to return with their lawyers on the same date.

He added, "Also, the most prominent person whose name has been widely discussed, the IGP himself, should also attend with his legal counsel."

"Some serious allegations have been made in public, but the evidential support for those allegations has not been made public. We will unearth the evidence, and we will exercise discretion on what evidence to release to the public without compromising national security," he informed Joy News.

Meanwhile, Franklin Cudjoe, President of the policy think tank IMANI Africa, believes the committee's work should have concluded when the witnesses admitted to their voices being on the tape.

Cudjoe expressed his view during an interview on The Big Issue on Citi TV in Accra, stating, "What initially happened, in my opinion, was a waste of everyone's time because the three individuals involved confessed to having their voices recorded and acknowledged some of the attributed statements. For me, the committee's work was completed at that point."

He questioned why the committee was allowing for further witness testimony, particularly from the police officers, which appeared to be leading to a review of the Ghana Police Service's authority.
