Police officially launch investigation into Mohbad's death.

The Lagos State Police Command has established a 13-member special investigation team to probe the untimely demise of Nigerian singer Mohbad, who passed away on September 12, 2023. This development was announced during a press briefing held by Idowu Owohunwa, the Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, on Monday, September 18th, 2023. The singer's parents were present at the briefing.

Commissioner Owohunwa emphasized that those responsible for Mohbad's death, as well as anyone connected to the incident, would face arrest and legal consequences. He reminded the public that the police command has the capability to collaborate with INTERPOL and utilize its resources.

He stated, "No matter where you are in the world, remember that we have unique access to INTERPOL. While we do not wish to mention specific names, individuals associated with Mohbad's demise will be identified and held accountable under the law."

Repeatedly, he stressed that specific names would not be disclosed during the ongoing investigation, but the public could trust that they were diligently pursuing the case. He added, "We do not want to single out particular individuals at this moment. Let's proceed with the investigation, and once we have concrete information to identify individuals, we will proceed within the bounds of the law, requiring them to provide clarification."

This development follows public demands for a police investigation into the singer's sudden death, especially due to videos circulating on social media showing Mohbad being mistreated and assaulted by members of his former record label, Marlian Music.

Before his passing, Mohbad had posted a video mentioning his former boss Naira Marley and fellow artist Sammy Larry, implying that they were responsible for any harm that might befall him. He had reportedly even sought police protection before his demise. However, both Naira Marley and Sammy Larry subsequently denied any involvement in the singer's death, stating that he was "like a brother" to them.

The news of the police investigation has been met with relief and support from Mohbad's fans, celebrities, and the wider Nigerian community, all of whom have been advocating for justice in the case.
