NASPA urges govt to pay arrears of NSS personnel

The Ghana National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) is calling on the National Service Scheme (NSS) to promptly settle the outstanding payments owed to its members.

Currently, the Secretariat owes its personnel two months' worth of allowances, causing significant financial difficulties for them.

While the NSS recently raised the allowances for its beneficiaries from GHS 559 to GHS 713 to assist them in coping with prevailing economic challenges, the arrears for two months remain unpaid for NSS personnel nationwide.

Oppong Siaw, the President of the La Nkwantanang group, expressed concern that NSS personnel are suffering due to the delay in receiving their allowances. He explained that despite assurances from the NSS Executive Director, Osei Assibey, a few weeks ago regarding payment, the personnel have not yet received their money. This delay has placed them in a precarious financial situation, forcing many of them to borrow funds for their daily expenses.

"On August 18, there was an event where the Executive Director, Osei Assibey, was present, and some of the service personnel asked him when the arrears would be paid. He made it clear that permission had been granted for the arrears to be disbursed to our various e-zwich accounts and that we should be expecting it last week. However, as of now, the personnel have still not been paid. The personnel are hungry and tired because they feel that their work has been in vain. Most of them are just borrowing money for transportation and food," Siaw stated.
