I will review free SHS policy – Alan Kyerematen

Former Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, has announced his intention to conduct a thorough review of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy if he secures the presidency in the upcoming 2024 elections. Speaking during an interview on UTV, he highlighted the significance of assessing the policy after seven years of its implementation.

Mr. Kyerematen further outlined his vision for the education sector, emphasizing the necessity of a comprehensive evaluation of the Free SHS policy. He stated, "I will review Free SHS; we have had it in place for seven years. You cannot run a program for seven years without reviewing it, so when I assume office, there will be a comprehensive review of the Free SHS policy. The original concept is commendable, and I appreciate Akufo-Addo for it, but it requires scrutiny."

Furthermore, he articulated his commitment to ensuring that the policy not only guarantees access to education but also enhances the overall quality of education in Ghana. Mr. Kyerematen emphasized the need for increased investments in infrastructure, teacher training, and curriculum development.

He underscored the importance of fostering a well-rounded education system that equips students to tackle both academic and practical challenges effectively.
