A 13-year-old girl has left her studies to engage in farming, all in an effort to gather funds for sanitary pads.
Thirteen-year-old Khadijatu Bawuma, a dedicated fifth-grade student at Saint Francis Primary School in Dakompilayiri, located in the Savannah Region, has made a heartfelt sacrifice.
She temporarily put her education on hold to support her family's financial struggles, a decision driven by the urgent need for sanitary pads that were otherwise unaffordable. Living with her 68-year-old grandmother, Felicia Bawumah, the family grappled with financial constraints, making the purchase of sanitary pads an unattainable luxury.
To address this pressing issue and prevent any embarrassment during her monthly cycle, Khadijatu had to forgo school temporarily and seek income elsewhere. However, their circumstances took a turn for the better when Eku-Ewilawura Amos Seidu, a retired educationist and local chief, learned of their plight. He stepped in with financial support for sanitary pads and also enrolled them in a bee-keeping training program aimed at bolstering their financial stability.
This compassionate act has kindled hope in Khadijatu, providing her with the opportunity to chase her aspirations of becoming a professional nurse or teacher.
