Hohoe: Police restore calm at Godenu; 12 suspects arrested



 The Police have successfully restored tranquility in Godenu, a village near Hohoe in the Volta Region, subsequent to a tumultuous incident during which a Police patrol vehicle was set ablaze by certain individuals within the community.


The Police reported that the disturbance transpired on August 31, 2023, Wednesday, following a collision between a patrol vehicle and a motorbike rider.


The motorbike rider sustained injuries and was subsequently transported to a hospital for medical care.


In the wake of the accident, a portion of the community became agitated and began pelting the Police patrol vehicle with stones.


Efforts by the Police officers within the vehicle to disperse the crowd were met with increased aggression, ultimately leading to the ignition of the patrol vehicle.


The violent episode resulted in the loss of two lives, while the injured motorbike rider continues to receive medical treatment.


In connection with the disruption, twelve individuals have been detained, and a Bruni pistol has been recovered. The Police are actively investigating the incident, including the circumstances surrounding the two fatalities.


To maintain law and order, enhanced security measures have been implemented in Hohoe Township and its neighboring communities.


The Police have called upon the public to remain composed and collaborate with law enforcement in their ongoing inquiries.
