Brighton is on the verge of securing the signing of Spain forward Ansu Fati from Barcelona on a loan deal for the upcoming season.

Barcelona's Ansu Fati is on the verge of completing an unexpected season-long loan transfer to Brighton.

Fati has seen his position diminish at Barcelona, who need to make room in their squad to secure the loan signing of Manchester City's full-back Joao Cancelo.

The arrangement with Brighton for the 20-year-old does not carry an obligation to purchase.

Although Tottenham had shown interest in Fati, he seems to have been swayed by Brighton's playing style under manager Roberto de Zerbi.

Should the transfer proceed as intended, it would mark a significant achievement for Brighton, who are set to partake in European football this season, having qualified for the Europa League.

Hailing from Guinea-Bissau but opting to represent Spain, Fati was a member of Spain's World Cup squad last year, solidifying his status as one of the most promising young talents in the sport.

In 2021, he penned a contract extension with Barcelona until 2027, featuring a massive 1-billion-euro buyout clause.
